Direct international funds are available for those enterprises which deal at the international market or internationally open, besides the regional funds under the European Union research and innovation flagship within the 2014-2020 programming period. One of the most specific programme is the HORIZON 2020 which budget is almost 79 billion EUR.

The SME instrument is one of the new element of the program to support small and medium sized enterprises which cover the full innovation cycle form the idea to market implementation. An SME can apply individually for project preparation and implementation, while before it was only possible through international consortium.

The specific SME instrument main features are:
- Small and medium sized enterprises can apply alone or within a consortium
- Within 2-3 years new market applications of new products, processes, design, services or technologies within the following areas

  • ICT
  • Nanotechnologies
  • Biotechnology
  • Space
  • Health
  • Food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry
  • Energy
  • Transport
  • Climate
  • Environment
  • Security

    The EUROSTARS program supports research and development performing innovative SMEs in international cooperation with a bottom-up approach as it is open to all technological fields (ICT, biotechnology, industrial products, product development, etc.). The objectives are to develop innovative products, processes or services which are then rapidly commercialized, within 2 years from the project closure. Hungary national allocation for 2014-2020 is 750 000 EUR annually.

    The AAL JP is a funding activity that aims to create better condition of life for the older adults and to strengthen the industrial opportunities in Europe through the use of information and communication technology (ICT). It carries out its mandate through the funding of across-national projects (at least three countries involved) that involves small and medium enterprises (SME), research bodies and user’s organizations (representing the older adults).
